A LETTER FROM LISA CLARK

This year I relocated to North Carolina. I have been settling in to my new yoga home in the Chapel Hill area and this Spring started teaching local classes in Pittsboro and Durham. I have also been traveling to yoga communities in Dallas, Chicago, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Raleigh to teach workshops and trainings. I began the year with a trip to India where I spent time in the history, temples and pulse of this vibrant culture.

It is exciting to experience first hand and also be part of the growing interest in embodiment, somatics, and yoga in different studios across the USA and other cultures globally.

I have had many requests from students to offer support for their practice at home. I am now offering podcasts with key aspects of embodied learning and eventually a monthly subscription where you can participate in online classes and workshops.

On line education in the form of articles, interviews, and podcasts can now be found on our new website. Stay tuned as these are updated monthly.
What is embodiment. It is a pathway of direct experience and a process of waking our body mind intelligence. It orients us to feel oneself and grow the abilities to know oneself. It is a foundation from which a genuine yoga practice can be generated. No matter where I am, this living in the practice has offered me home and a return to myself.

Why EmbodiYoga®?

At first, yoga called to my physicality, my most accessible sensorium. With time, the postures were collaborations, meditations, and deep relationship with gravity and levity. Yoga became a practice with a prism-effect, each ray revealing layers, insights, possibilities. Those rays were a path to a study of embodiment with a yoga context; EmbodiYoga®.

My first experience with EmbodiYoga® was a workshop with Lisa Clark called The Mysterious Life of the Belly: Yoga and the Organs, in 2004. I had an established, familiar relationship with my muscles, connective tissues, and bones, the container, within my yoga practice but the contents, the organs, had little presence for me despite a degree in comparative anatomy. Lisa brought the organs' qualities of beauty, energy, and movement support alive for me. She was the first person I had ever seen to look lovingly upon an anatomical model of the organs as if they were a beautiful artistic treasure. The shapes, the layers, the spaces; and then to bring those qualities into a yoga posture, like downdog, give me an incredible lightness and completeness, extraordinary in my experience. I became more embodied in my yoga practice with the presence of the contents as well as the container....READ MORE
