EMBODYING OPTIMAL MOVEMENT: THE DEVELOPMENTAL PATTERNS & BODY-MIND INTEGRATION

Equilibrium Movement Studio

Wexford, PA 15090

NOVEMBER 9-10, 2019
WORKSHOP: $300 BEFORE OCTOBER 19 / $350 AFTER
TIME: SATURDAY AND SUNDAY 12-5 PM

MAY 30-31, 2020
WORKSHOP: $300 BEFORE MAY 1 / $350 AFTER
TIME: SATURDAY AND SUNDAY 12-5 PM

This workshop series will explore the inherent movement possibilities found in the asana families — vertical axis, upper body/lower body, lateral, cross body, rotation, and spirals — finding new options for whole body-mind cohesiveness in yoga. You will learn effective ways to build safe, integrated sequences and class plans that are developmentally appropriate for varied skill levels.

We will examine the compensatory patterns that occur when there is a lack of integration between limbs and spine, head to tail, front and back body, and our lateral sidedness. We will engage with asana, sequencing, developmental and 3-dimensional movement, to gain clearer relationships with gravity, space and self. Classes are adapted and accessible, providing time and space for somatic inquiry and mindful choices. All levels of experience are welcome.

Each weekend will explore different aspects of the material, you can register for one or both. CEUS available for Yoga Teachers. Space is limited, please contact info@eqpittsburgh.com to register.

This program is designed for those who are eager to significantly deepen their understanding, experience and practice of yoga. It is a fresh start for teachers who already have completed a 200/300 hour training and wish to study yoga from a somatic perspective. It is also appropriate for first time yoga training students seeking a teaching foundation for a deeply informed yoga practice approach for all types of students. The immersive curriculum interweaves: Embodied anatomy and alignment, principles of somatic learning and teaching, yoga philosophy and theoretical foundations, safe foundational sequencing, asana, breath, and meditation. Students will learn to actively grow their practice from within, finding structure and integrity by opening deeper layers of kinesthetic awareness. While shedding new light on the inner workings of the asana, this approach offers an embodied exploration of the transformative and creative potential of yoga.
